The Ride plot
Danny comes to see his great hero at the rodeo, but the once great Smokey Banks now quickly falls off his bull, taking his loss on a broken Coke machine and in the bar. His sentence is commuted to service, thus answering Danny's prayers. He is placed on the ranch where youngsters with problems, such as Danny, are taken care of. Smokey should be an example for the youth, but he lacks the belief in a better world. A belief that Danny can hold on to, because he is terminally ill.
