The Quiet Hour plot

"Time is running out"

Humans are few since Earth was attacked by alien machines. They harvest the planet's natural resources and ruthlessly kill its inhabitants. In a remote part of the countryside, where starving humans are as dangerous as the alien machines, lives an unyielding 19-year-old girl: Sarah Connolly. She makes a desperate attempt to protect her parents' farm, their remaining livestock and the solar panels that protect them from aliens from a group of bandits. If she fails to do this, she will lose her only source of food and shelter.

Director Stéphanie Joalland dusts off Dakota Blue Richards and places her in this dystopian, underexposed world. The Quiet Hour is essentially a psychological narrative that sets several characters in a mysterious and menacing environment and asks the question of what they are going to do about it. The answer is: wait until people come along who can push the story in a different direction. Joalland jumps from situation to situation, some more interesting than others, but fails to add any sense of urgency, atmosphere, or tension. In the background, you occasionally see a spaceship drifting by, but the lackluster effects quickly make it clear why that doesn't happen very frequently. The acting is good and the second half is decent, but this remains mostly cheap filler.
