The Price of Silence plot
After committing a minor crime, Helen, an orphan living with her aunt and cousin Emily, is sent to the suburbs to live with a very strict family. She falls in love with a man named Ralph Kelton, and while driving in the countryside one day, a great storm arises and they are forced to take refuge in an old man's house. The two plan to get married the next day and spend the night together. But shortly after they are intimate, Ralph is killed by a bolt of lightning that hits the house. Dr. Stafford is summoned and Helen tells the doctor that she and Ralph were not married, unaware that she is now pregnant.
