The People vs. Nancy Preston plot

Bill Preston and Mike Horgan, prisoners in Sing Sing, become friends, and while Bill dreams of the day he will be with his wife Nancy and his son Bubsy, Mike studies medicine so that he can walk the straight path when he is released. Bill goes to work when he is released, but Gloomy Gus Cole, an employee of the Tierney Detective Agency, chases him from one job to another until he has to commit another robbery to support his family and is killed while attempting to break into a bank. Mike receives a request from the dead man to provide care and support to Nancy and the boy, and when he is released, he goes to them.
