The Outsider plot
Lalage Sturdee is a brilliant pianist. Virtually abandoned at birth by her father, an eminent surgeon, the mistake of an uneducated general practitioner leaves her with a lifelong handicap... or so she believes. Despite her father's objections, she relies on Anton Ragatzy, the lavish and outspoken inventor of a machine that seems to produce miraculous results. A machine that will heal her completely or paralyze her forever.
