The Manicure Girl plot

Maria Maretti, who works as a manicurist in a fancy hotel, is in love with Antonio "Tony" Luca. Both are saving to buy a house and they want to get married. But Maria is not blind to what is happening around her. She watches the other girls take money and favors from their wealthy employers and would like a share of what they get. James Morgan, one of the hotel guests, is fond of Maria. He sends her flowers plus ten dollars for theater tickets, because she is too reserved to accept his invitation. However, instead of James, Tony takes her to the theater, where they have the cheapest seats. On the way home, Tony is too stingy to pay for a taxi, despite the rain. As Tony chases after his blown away hat, James sees Maria and offers to take her home, which she accepts. Complications are inevitable.
