The Loves of Joanna Godden plot

England, 1905. When Joanna Godden's father dies, he leaves her a farm in Romney Marsh, Kent. Joanna is determined to run the farm herself. Her neighbor Arthur Alce laughs at her ambitions, but loves her nonetheless. However, Joanna's plan to raise sheep fails. She gets lost and turns to Arthur Alce for help, but she doesn't want any love from him. Joanna wants love from Martin Trevor, a visitor and someone outside of Romney Marsh. However, on the eve of their wedding, Martin dies.
