The House of Gold plot
Pamela Martin's fiancée, lawyer Frank Steele, leaves for South America on business. Her mother and another suitor, Douglas Martin, want to prevent their marriage by telling her that Frank is a thief. Douglas usually hosts lavish parties at the couple's home. During one of these parties, Pamela explains the reason for her marriage to Frank, who has just returned from South America. Her husband, in a drunken tantrum, insults her and then tries to hug her. Pamela reaches for a knife, but at that moment she faints. She then wakes up to find Douglas dead, after which she is charged with murder.
