The Gilded Butterfly plot

Linda Haverhill is left destitute after the death of her father, who was respected but often lived off other people's wallets. John Converse, who longs for her, decides to advance her a sum of money. In an attempt to maintain her place in society, she travels abroad, but soon goes bankrupt. On the way, Linda falls in love with Captain Brian Anestry of the American army, which arouses John's suspicions.
