The Flame of Life plot
Joan Lowrie and her cruel father, Dan, work in the English coal mines in the 1870s. Fergus Derrick, a new foreman, tries to make life more bearable for his workers but incurs Lowrie's wrath when he fires him for smoking in the mine. Lowrie then plots revenge, which is not without consequences.
