The Firm Land plot

A deadly disease strikes a remote village on the Indian Ocean. With death lurking everywhere, the villagers decide to ask the government for help. They send a few men to the capital with orders to hire mediators, "wise men" who can plead their cases. The rural people feel lost in the big city. They cannot find help and get into trouble. They are rescued by some street boys who take them to a disillusioned former professor. He insists that the villagers themselves go to the ministry and persevere until their complaints are heard. However, they are flatly rejected by the civil service. At a big party, organized by a ruined and wistful aristocrat, they sing and dance and talk about happiness and life.
