The Fighting Rookie plot

Police officer Jim Trent is on patrol. From an upstairs apartment, Trent hears a woman's screams and rushes to help her. Inside, Trent is hit in the head and whiskey is poured over his uniform. The mobster Louis Cantor and his accomplices have used this ruse to rob a department store undisturbed. Knowing that Trent is innocent, the police commissioner proposes that he be fired so that Trent can infiltrate the gang.
