The End of the Tour plot

Colonel Jessup of Mayville wastes no affection on his young wife, who eventually runs away with a theater company, taking her son with her but leaving her little girl behind. She later dies, and the boy, Byron Bennett, known as Buddy, becomes the leading man for a theater company that plays night after night, but this season has been disastrous and the company is on the verge of disbanding. But then they are told that the show in Mayville is completely sold out, so they decide to hold on. However, the manager collects the tickets for the show and takes the first train, which means they are in serious trouble.
