Telephone operator Peggy performs an act with Matt Wilde at an amateur theater night in Bowery and is seen by Billy Laidlaw. He is immediately convinced of her talents. Billy then arranges the act's Broadway debut and falls in love with Peggy, who seems to return his affections wholeheartedly.
