The Cherry Orchard plot

Madame Ranevsky (Peggy Ashcroft) is brought home from Paris by her daughter Anya (Judi Dench) as the family's mansion and surrounding cherry orchard are in dire straits. There are deep debts, which can only be solved when the cherry orchard is removed and holiday homes are placed on the estate. However, the family is strongly against this.
