The Case of Becky plot
"Here is the strange story of a girl with two selves- two souls,-one of them good, one of them bad. And the things that one did the other knew nothing of. Can you imagine the possibilities in such a plot?"
The traveling magician Balzamo arrives in the town where Dr. Emerson and his beautiful young wife live. Balzamo is in love with Mrs. Emerson, hypnotizes her and takes her away with him. Many years later, as she lies dying, she warns her daughter Dorothy to flee from the evil Balzamo. Dorothy runs away to a small town and stays with Mrs. Arnold and her son John, but when she and John become engaged, Dorothy suddenly begins to behave strangely, causing her personality and even her name to change. She is taken to the sanatorium of a specialist in nervous disorders, who turns out to be none other than Dr. Emerson, the man whose wife was Dorothy's mother.
