The Black Tulip plot

The Republic of the Seven United Netherlands, 1672. The country is gripped by tulip mania. Cornelus van Baerle, a scholar, devotes his life to growing tulips. When the city of Haarlem offers a prize to the person who can grow a black tulip, Cornelus takes up the challenge. His neighbor Isaac Boxtel, who is also a gardener, watches his every move. Fearing Cornelus' success, he begins to hatch a plot.
