The Assistant plot

It is the turn of the century and it is difficult to get a job. A young man takes a job as a clerk out of desperation. However, he is not paid anything for this job, his remuneration consists of room and board. Unhappy as he is, he falls in love with his boss's daughter. This daughter should not know anything about him. She is supported by her Jewish mother who should know nothing about a non-Jewish suitor.
