The Accompanist plot

Nine-year-old Emily tells her classmates at school that they nearly died at the hands of her grandfather, who suffers from dementia. Sarah, who works for Child Protective Services, is subsequently sent to their home, after which Emily is given a foster mother in the form of the mysterious and unpredictable Sylvia. The two grow closer, and their dreams and worlds even overlap. Sylvia, too, struggles with ghosts from the past.
