Tap Roots plot
"When she lost her lover...her sister gained one!"
In the days before the war between the states of America, Morna Dabney is engaged to officer Clay MacIvor. Morna's grandfather, Big Sam Dabney, established his plantation near Levington, Mississippi, and it extends far south. Despite this, Big Sam and his son Hoab (Morna's father) remain loyal to the Northerners. When Mississippi secedes, Hoab plans to keep the area around his plantation neutral. Hoab receives support from local journalist Keith Alexander. Keith is in love with Morna, whose fiancée Clay has now joined the Confederate army. Clay plans to punish the citizens of Levington and the surrounding area for their neutrality by looting the area. But Morna, with the help of Chief Tishomingo of the Choctaw tribe and friend of her father, wants to fight her betrothed to defend her family's territory.
