"Some men are born with a gift, and some are born to discover it."
Virgil Sweet is a scout for the California Angels baseball club. When his car breaks down on the way, he discovers a very talented pitcher, Sammy Bodean, in a nearby town. With great difficulty he gets Sammy to Los Angeles, where the young pitcher immediately proves his talent. The Angels boss, however, wants to give his club publicity and bombards Sammy to the club's hopes, while he has barely proven himself. Virgil tries everything to instill some confidence in Sammy.
