Swallowtail & Dragonfly plot

The attractive, intelligent, and gifted Lianxia Zhou, one of China's most famous female painters and poets, and her talented husband, Wanping Xu, conquered Shanghai in the 1930s as part of an iconic circle of famous artists and writers. They defied the conventions of the time and shaped the cultural path that China follows to this day. But when the world around them erupted in war, a cruel twist of fate separated Ziyi and Wanping and plunged her and their five children into a precarious situation in which they had to fight to survive.
