Sudeste plot
Boga's father dies. His death does not really come as a surprise to the young man; he accepts it as part of the life cycle. For Boga, who lives in the endless water and reedlands of the Parana River in northern Argentina, the death of his father actually means freedom. He is used to earn a living as a fisherman and goes on a journey with his boat, with no real destination. Along the way he sees other inhabitants of the river - a river he considers his own and the others therefore somewhat as invaders. The high-rise buildings of Buenos Aires can sometimes be discerned in the background: it is clear that the river is not an enclosed, primitive paradise. Boga meets El Pampa, a real river rat with a past. El Pampa has been shot and doesn't think it will last much longer. He asks Boga to bring some money to La Estela.
