State of Statelessness plot
An omnibus of four short stories. In the first section, a Tibetan father in Vietnam tells his young daughter how the Mekong River, which rises in his homeland, flows into the sea in their new country. In the second segment, two sisters come together for a bittersweet reunion to cremate their deceased mother, only to discover that years of separation have created complex problems they struggle to unravel. The third part follows Sonam, recovering from a family tragedy, when a visit from a long-lost school friend from America forces him and his wife to confront the fragility of their lives. In the final story, a son returns to his deceased father's home in Dharamshala, where he glimpses his past and discovers a secret that challenges his understanding of his heritage and identity.
