Spätwerk plot

In the past, Paul Bacher was known as one of the foremost writers of his generation, but lately he has been going through a crisis and the inspiration is lacking. Tormented by cynicism and despair, Paul resorts to booze. When he hits a hitchhiker in a drunken stupor one evening, he initially commits a hit-and-run, but later returns to dispose of the lifeless body. The incident gets Paul back to writing, but the clever narration of a hitchhiker's death in his latest book arouses suspicion.
