Sonnensucher plot
In the autumn of 1950, the uranium-winning company Wismut in the Erz Mountains is in Soviet hands. The uranium is used to become a nuclear power after the American atomic bomb on Hiroshima. Many are willing to work underground: adventurers, stranded, Germans and Russians. Some hoping for a better future, others still trapped in the past. Emmi Jahnke and the 18-year-old orphaned girl Lutz are forced to work for the company because they were stopped by the police in Berlin and did not have regular employment. Emmi made a living by working as a prostitute and Lutz was exposed to abuse by older men at a young age. Franz Beijer, their immediate supervisor, is anything but happy with their arrival.
