Shui Shang Ren Jia plot
An almost documentary portrait of two young fishermen on the Yellow River. Modern life slowly settles into the age-old traditions of the fishing people. Baowa and Laba are cousins and best friends. An old uncle, who has taught everyone the trade, is afraid of the outside world because so many relatives were already unfortunate there. He doesn't want to hear about his departure and has forbidden Baowa, who was the only one to go to school, to ever talk about it again. In the evening the ships moor, the generators start and everyone watches a DVD. In winter the boats run dry on the riverbank. When Laba's parents buy a bigger boat, the brothers are faced with an inevitable choice.
