Shimanto-gawa plot

Atsuyoshi Yamamoto grew up in the countryside in Koichi Prefecture. He witnessed with his own eyes the gradual decline of the traditional way of life. The sense of solidarity with the country and its patron saints, in particular, was lost when Atsuyoshi's relatives moved to the city—adapting to the practical and worldly way of life. "Atsu" becomes confused about the legends and folklore that the village elders have told him.
