Sharaku plot
Tombo (Hiroyuki Sanada) is a second-rate Kabuki player who is dumped by his gang after breaking his foot. He joins the ragged gang led by former courtesan Okan (Shima Iwashita). When he's not on stage, he draws something and realizes that that might be where his talents lie. This is also noted by ukiyo-e publisher Tsutaya Juzaburo (Frankie Sakai), who is distraught after his star artist Utamaro left for his competitor. Tombo, working under the pseudonym Sharaku, becomes an anonymous sensation in Edo. However, Juzaburo demands more and more from him and the freedom and love become more alluring to Tombo than the anonymous wealth and art.
