Shanghai 1937 plot

Shanghai, 1937. The city is torn by tensions because of an approaching war. Helen Russell (Agnieszka Wagner), an attractive Russian aristocrat, and her alcoholic husband Bobby (Nicholas Clay) move into a room at the Hotel Shanghai. Bar pianist Kurt Planke falls hopelessly in love with Helen and gets bogged down with Bobby Russell in the world of narcotics. Helen begins an affair with American reporter Frank Taylor (James McCaffrey).
