Seishun no Mon plot
Chikuhou, Kita-kyushu, at the time of World War II. The story of Shinsuke and his mother Tae. Father Juzo, who sacrificed himself to rescue some miners trapped in a mine, is known as a hero in the area. Shinsuke inherits his father's courage and grows up to be a strong, competitive young man. His plan is to flee his native village of Chikuhou in Kita-kyushu to Tokyo, to escape his hopeless existence in the violent neighborhood where he grew up.
