Seif Tagreeby plot
Mahmoud and Zeinab begin a search for the original version of the first Egyptian independent film of the same name. This one was made in the early eighties. All copies of the film were seized or destroyed by the government's film agency, an institution that controlled the production and distribution of the film at the time. In response, the Egyptian filmmakers created their own versions of the film, all under the name “Seif Tagreeby”. They made recordings in cafes, shop windows and video clubs without permission from the state. They discovered that there were 23 different versions, all shot in the winter with a girl in the center listening to messages on answering machines. However, the original was made before these were invented.
