Satan Town plot
Bill Scott has a steamboat ticket to Alaska but sells it for $1,000 to finance the education of a little girl named Sue, whom he befriended at an orphanage. He gives the money to John Jerome, a corrupt lawyer. Bill then works as a stoker on the steamboat and becomes wealthy during the Nome Gold Rush, continuing to send money to Jerome for the girl's education for the next 12 years. However, Jerome uses the money to pay for his own daughter's education and to finance Satan Town, a series of shacks dedicated to gambling, dance halls, and other vices.
