Sanctuary plot

Mississippi in the 1920s. A young riotous woman, Temple Drake, falls in love with the man who raped her. When she hears that her lover has died, she decides to marry another man. In flashbacks, her story is told by the dark maid who is on trial for the murder of Temple's baby.
