In business, sixty-year-old Jacques (Roger Hanin) is a rock, who has managed to acquire a considerable fortune through hard work. In the amorous area he has less success. Except for a few superficial relationships, enough to stroke his ego, he is alone. Until one day he happens to meet the attractive Isabelle (Charlotte Rampling), a good girl who is involved in humanitarian aid.
