"Love is worth going the distance"
The story is set against the backdrop of 1920s segregation in Hawaii. The young orphan Jo is of mixed descent and becomes the assistant to the new doctor in his village. When he falls in love with the daughter of the owner of the coffee plantation, her father enlists the help of Reyes, also a doctor. Reyes wants to do everything he can to drive both Jo and the doctor out of the village.
