Run the Wild Fields plot

Ten-year-old Pug and her mother Ruby live alone on a ranch that has fallen into disrepair. Pug's father went missing during World War II, but Pug and Ruby continue to hope for his return, even though everyone in the village is convinced he is dead. So is the wealthy neighbor Silas, who approaches Ruby. When the mysterious drifter shows up one day, Silas tries to turn the village against him.
