Towards the end of World War II, Private Kleinschmidt is sentenced to death by Prosecutor Schramm for stealing two bars of chocolate. By chance, Kleinschmidt escapes his execution. After the war, Schramm gained reputation as a public prosecutor. Kleinschmidt tries to make ends meet as a street vendor. One day, Kleinschmidt and Schramm run into each other…
