Room at the Top plot

War veteran Joe Lampton (Matthew McNulty) goes to work in post-war England in a town somewhere in the north. He quickly becomes at home in the local community and the local drama society. The ladies especially have a crush on the handsome Joe. He has an affair with the older and unhappily married Alice (Maxine Peake). But Joe also falls for the charms of young Susan (Jenna Coleman). Susan's parents and fiancé are not happy about this and take drastic measures.
