The two former farmer friends Grimm and Melcher have nearly destroyed each other in a pointless, years-long dispute over a ridiculous corner of farmland. However, their two children, Veronica and Fabian, shared a tender friendship together. During an unexpected meeting, the fathers beat each other up, and the now young adults meet again after a long time and rediscover their love. The great and especially new feeling for them overwhelms them and fills their whole being. Little by little, however, they become aware of the futility of this strong emotional bond. After all, there is no future for them together. And both eventually realize this, when Veronica's father tragically loses his mind one day. Fabian was involved in the fatal accident. To spend one more day of carefree happiness for the two of them, they leave their house and go to the fair in a neighboring village.
