When the Second World War started, the music student Honzik from Prague and the German nurse Käthe were 18 years old. He ends up in a company of foreign workers and is sent to Germany. During a march through bombed-out Stralsund, against the orders of his superiors, he rescues a boy from the rubble. He is seriously injured in this. In the overcrowded hospital, the Germans have priority, but Käthe takes care of him. Love develops between her and the Czech. But that is forbidden and informers and spies are everywhere. Käthe is arrested by the Gestapo.
