Retratos en un Mar de Mentiras plot
After their grandfather is killed in a landslide, traveling photographer Jairo and his younger niece Marina return to her native land to reclaim the land from which she fled years ago. In a battered Renault 4 they travel from Bogotá to the Colombian coast. The traumatized Marina suffers from amnesia and has not spoken a word for years. During the journey, her personal history slowly but surely unfolds. That the area is still dangerous is clear when the two are kidnapped by paramilitaries when they reach the village. While trying to flee, Jairo is seriously injured. As Marina confronts the past, his condition begins to deteriorate rapidly.
