Julien, a broken piano concertist (Jacques Dutronc), sets up a criminal machination to reunite his ex-wife Jeanne (Isabelle Huppert). Not daring to express his true feelings, he stages a murder in the garden of the mansion, which he gave to his wife and son after the divorce. He tries to blame that crime on the new husband.
