Ren Gui Qing plot
The story is based on the life of Beijing opera singer Pei Yanling, who was famous for her portrayal of male roles, most notably the god of the underworld Zhong Kui. In the film, her name is Pei Qiu Yun, a girl whose parents are opera singers. Qiu catches her mother making love to an actor, after which the mother leaves the family. Qiu strongly identifies with her father and is determined to play male operatic roles.
