Release plot
Jack Gillie, a young priest found guilty of a serious crime, is imprisoned. Angry that the church has abandoned him, he suffers from his lack of confidence. Yet he tries to help his vulnerable cellmate Rook. But nothing can protect Rook (and possibly the priest) from the impending violence of a sadistic fellow inmate. The atmosphere is explosive, the guards stay aloof or side with the violent inmates and the female guard is more concerned about sex and power than how to maintain control.
