Miami, Florida 1964. Professional speedboat racer Pop Gunner gears up for his final race before handing over 'his crown' to his son Lee. Pop's main competitor is the rich and sneaky Gregg Stevenson, who also has a love affair with his daughter Linda, which he is not happy about. The irresponsible Gregg, despite drinking alcohol, takes part in the important race. With a terrible result.
