Quatre-vingt-treize plot
Film adaptation of Victor Hugo's novel of the same name. The film is set in Brittany during the period of 'The Terror' (1793). The film follows various historical events from the point of view of three different characters, each representing a side in the battle. The Marquis de Lantenac (Philippe Garnier) takes charge of the Breton counter-revolution against the supporters of the Republic. However, his cousin Gauvain (Paul Capellani) is on the side of the revolutionaries. He gets his revolutionary ideas from the former priest Cimourdain (Henry Krauss), who was appointed by Lantenac as a home teacher. Cimourdain becomes the leader of the revolutionary army. The fates of the three characters are linked...
