Quartet plot
Four short stories by W. Somerset Maugham are filmed by four different directors. In Ralph Smart's "The Facts of Life," an innocent, naive young Briton is targeted by a beautiful adventurer. Harold French's "The Alien Corn" is about a young aristocrat who hopes to become a professional concert pianist. Arthur Crabtree's "The Kite" tells the story of an inventor who puts his work above all else and thereby neglects his wife. And Ken Annakin's "The Colonel's Lady" is about a woman who makes fun of her stiff husband by publishing some romantic poems.
