Pole Poppenspäler plot
Satisfied from his many travels, the North German craftsman Paul sees his childhood girlfriend, Lisei, the puppeteer's daughter. The two love each other and get married. Paul returns to his hometown with Lisei and her elderly father. He is a respected craftsman, but his snobbery-plagued fellow craftsmen are unwilling to accept a puppeteer's daughter as one of their own. The constant abuse makes Lisei and her father melancholy, but Paul stands behind them like a rock. He is even willing to let his father-in-law start over with a puppet show. The first performance ends in a fiasco that the old man does not survive. But the love of Paul and Lisei remains strong.
