Piccolo Mondo Antico plot
A young nobleman, against the wishes of his cranky Austrian grandmother, marries a woman of ordinary bourgeois descent and the couple moves in with the woman's uncle in a villa on beautiful Lake Como. Their child drowns after falling from an overhanging rock in the lake. The tragedy almost drives the young mother to madness. However, she comes to her senses when her husband, who is a member of an underground movement, goes to war in the Crimean War.
